THE LAST SHIFT: TAPE 0 (Night 1 Prototype)

This is a short psychological retro-horror game in the PSX style, developed as a gameplay and atmospheric experiment.

Plot & Gameplay

You play as a grocery store clerk left alone for the night shift. Your task is to unpack the inventory left near the entrance. There are 9 unique items in total, and each must be placed in its corresponding department. The store's computer system will not register the item unless it matches the correct shelf index.

The daytime clerk left a brief note warning you about flickering lights, strange noises in the backroom, and an old Nokia phone that shouldn't be answered under any circumstances. The routine breaks completely when you find an unmarked videotape under the boxes. Shortly after, a total blackout hits the store, the automated exit doors lock from the outside, and you are left with nothing but a flashlight.

Features

  • Authentic low-poly PSX visual style with dithering, pixelation, and CRT scanlines.
  • Gameplay locked at 30 FPS for a cinematic retro feel.
  • Interactive inventory system and light management.
  • A scripted climax inside the backroom.

Developer's Note

This project is a vertical slice (Night 1 prototype) created to test the core mechanics and atmosphere. Whether this concept expands into a full game with Night 2 (featuring camera-monitoring mechanics, the basement area, and the mystery of Tape 0) depends entirely on player interest. Please leave your feedback, rate the prototype, and follow the page if you want to see the continuation.
